Love Poem 1
Love Poem 1
The water of home and of youth
is clear and cold and sweet.
But clearer - and herein the truth -
and sweeter is when our lips meet.
I've tasted the savours divine
of many an earthly delight -
of honey, and wafer, and wine
but never a kiss like tonight.
That moment of tender embrace
was truly a moment in bliss.
I've lived for the thrill of the chase,
but nothing compares with this.
My hunting days are done;
my shield by my armchair shall rest.
Of all the battles I've won
the prize of this latest, the best.
For thee I would all things forsake,
as thou art my only desire
and your love like a zephyr shall take
me on wings of an angel, higher.
And what shall I use to compare?
Infinity does not equate
with beauty so gracelike and fair,
in apparel so rich and ornate.
I hardly believe thou canst love
a feeble ungallant pretence
at a man. It doth only behove
me to bear with thy lack of good sense.
But you do and I wish that I were
more the man that I know I should be.
Yet if thou art content with my care
equally am I with thee.
