Love Poem 2
Love Poem 2 (Who Is She?)
Who is this girl who seems so kind
And takes up so much of my mind
I hadn’t seen her face before
But when I met her I was sure
I knew who I had found and she
Was someone who had looked for me.
I’d looked for her so long, I thought
And many costly battles fought
Reminded me how much I’d spent
To come this far. The story went
Like any other; two young fools -
Boy meets girl, and nature rules.
Everything was going fine.
I got to know her, and in time
We found that we were bound to be
Together and were happily
Connected, like I’d always thought
We should be. Like we ought.
Then came the time when I was treated
Not so well, though not defeated.
From tender touch and miss you much
To lies and cries and fears and tears
In an instant, we became
Enemies, to our shame.
She played a game with me and I
Never knew her well, nor why
She never even really shared
Herself with me, although I cared
For her as much as ever I had
Which was a lot. I hope she’s glad.
It will take time to find that trust
I once enjoyed, but soon I must
Or she will swiftly here depart
And leave an empty longing heart –
Though hard it is to fully forgive,
I shall, you know – it’s how we live.
It’s true, you know, we’re meant to be
Though looking back it’s hard to see.
Since not a trace of what we had
Is evident. Should I be glad
That nothing really came of this,
A game of lies and emphasis?
I know I’ll see her face again
At some point in the future when
I can forgive myself for being
Caught by her, for never seeing
How much was at stake. And so
I’ll be more careful now, you know.
I’ll pick my heart up and move on
For memories will soon be gone
And one day soon I’ll find her here
Back in my arms, that one so dear
And nevermore will she seek to stray
Whatsoever comes our way.
That moment will be sweetest when
I have her by my side again
Without a question or a doubt
When separation is ruled out
And I will know she won’t betray
Me evermore. Oh speed the day.
The question stands, though, who is she
Who caught my heart so readily?
Was it a girl who caught my eye,
A character who happened by?
Of course not! By the heavens above
A woman? No! Her name is Love.
