The Dragon's Pledge

I will watch you in the darkness
when the peril is about,
waiting in the shadows I
will always hear you when you shout.

I will stand and keep my vigil
like a watchman at the door,
making sure that none approaches;
no-one harms you any more.

I will breathe my fiery warning
as the captors make their way
up the hill toward the castle
at the closing of the day.

I will fight with all my strength
not to let them take their prize.
Fighting on until the death,
I with danger in my eye.

I will rage until the final
arrows fly from bows let free.
Then and only then I'll know
the prize they sought to take was me.
