You’re still in my dreams

Like you want me to love you

And, sleeping, it seems

You’ve a message above you

In bright shining lights

Saying, come up and love me

Sometime tonight

But a cloud is above me

A heavy grey form

Casting shadow and doubt

On the tender and warm

Thoughts that I’d felt about

You while we were still

In that dream, that embrace

In that moment until

Waking, truth took its place.

I still can recall

The message I saw

I remember it all

And I will, evermore

But I’m still in those dreams

Like I want you to love me

Though not sleeping it seems

There’s a message above me

And somehow I feel

That the message I read

Is a dream; it’s unreal

And is transient indeed

But while I retain

It and still can recall

I’ll count it my gain

That I heard it at all.

So – dreamlike, I kissed you

Hoping you’d stay

In my arms or I’d miss you

Forever and a day

But you’re only in dreams

And I might never feel

Your lips, for it seems

It will never be real

So for now I lament

With sorrowful tears

For that which I’ve dreamt

But that never appears
